Discover our delicious decaffeinated coffee

Decaffeinated coffee is a choice that can be made by consumers who want to enjoy the flavor and aroma of coffee without experiencing the stimulant effect provided by caffeine. In this article we tell you how we do it at Viaggio Espresso .

There are different decaffeination methods, some of them use chemical products to obtain the caffeine extraction , we prefer to opt for the natural route, so our caffeine extraction process is carried out by the water method.

WATER DECAFFEINATION PROCESS

The water decaffeination method was developed in Switzerland in the late 1970s . This process consists of immersing the raw coffee beans in hot water where, through an osmosis process, the caffeine is extracted from the beans into the water. The water is then passed through a carbon filter to remove the caffeine . The beans are partially dried and sprayed with the water, which still contains the coffee flavor, so that the flavor is recovered, but the caffeine is not.

To obtain water-based decaffeinated coffee, green coffee beans are immersed in a solution of water with caffeine-free green coffee extract. Since caffeine is soluble, when soaking the grains, they open the pores and the osmosis effect occurs. That means the caffeine is diluted in the water naturally.

As the water already has the rest of the coffee elements except caffeine, the compounds that give coffee flavor and aroma are not diluted. This is how coffee beans maintain all their properties, except for caffeine . Then, the already decaffeinated beans are dried with hot air.

This type of decaffeination tends to be used in the most select coffees such as our Decaffeinato , a product that has not left anyone who tries it indifferent. Without a doubt, working to achieve excellence is our main motivation.
